Rapidly mixing and Markov bases

Abstract
The mixing behaviour of Markov chains on fiber graphs is examined. It is shown that, in fixed dimension, Markov chains on those graphs using Markov bases are not rapidly mixing. Examples in which fiber graphs in varying dimension are not rapidly mixing are presented as well. It is also shown how to adapt Markov bases so that the graphs are expanders and hence the chain rapidly mixing.
