Cybercrime is estimated to cost the global economy almost \10trillionannuallyandwithbusinessesandgovernmentsreportinganever−increasingnumberofsuccessfulcyber−attacksthereisagrowingdemandtorethinkthestrategytowardscybersecurity.Thetraditional,perimetersecurityapproachtocyberdefencehassofarprovedinadequatetocombatthegrowingthreatofcybercrime.Cyberdeceptionoffersapromisingalternativebycreatingadynamicdefenceenvironment.Deceptivetechniquesaimtomisleadattackers,divertingthemfromcriticalassetswhilstsimultaneouslygatheringcyberthreatintelligenceonthethreatactor.Thisarticlepresentsaproof−of−concept(POC)cyberdeceptionsystemthathasbeendevelopedtocapturetheprofileofanattackerin−situ,duringasimulatedcyber−attackinrealtime.Bydynamicallyandautonomouslygeneratingdeceptionmaterialbasedontheobservedattackerbehaviourandanalysinghowtheattackerinteractswiththedeceptionmaterial,thesystemoutputsapredictionontheattacker′smotive.ThearticlealsoexploreshowthisPOCcanbeexpandedtoinferotherfeaturesoftheattacker′sprofilesuchaspsychologicalcharacteristics.Bydynamicallyandautonomouslygeneratingdeceptionmaterialbasedonobservedattackerbehaviourandanalysinghowtheattackerinteractswiththedeceptionmaterial,thesystemoutputsapredicitonontheattacker′smotive.ThearticlealsoexploreshowthisPOCcanbeexpandedtoinferotherfeaturesoftheattacker′sprofilesuchaspsychologicalcharacteristics.
