The Physical Systems Behind Optimization Algorithms

We provide some new insights for analyzing dynamics of optimization algorithms, which are popular in machine learning, based on differential equation approaches. Our analysis reveals a natural connection from optimization algorithm to physical systems, and is applicable to more general algorithms and optimization problems beyond general convexity and strong convexity.
